Did you disable UAC before installing? Try that if you have not and try VS 2005 Setup again: Start > All Programs > Run > type in MSCONFIG > Tools (tab) > scroll down select Disable UAC > click Launch, restart your system for the changes to take effect. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I tried the installation with UAC disabled but the install errored. I will gather more information and post a reply. This is the standard edition of Visual Studio if that makes any difference.

A funny thing happened on my reply. Vista deepended and rebooted. It would not boot. A check of the bios indicated no HDDs or CDs were listed. A power off corrected this. This has happened before. A reboot into Vista started chkdsk of the HDD. This indicated a lot of problems. I let it complete the repair and tried again. The system would not reboot even into safe mode. I am dual booting XP Pro which found additional problems with the Vista partition during boot and Vista still would not boot. A reinstall is planned as soon as possible.

I did reinstall Vista and Visual Studio installed with no problems. I had overclocked my processor and even though XP Pro ran with no problems, I believe that is what caused the problem with instability. Vista had crashed a couple of times before I tried installing Visual Studio. Its the best answer I can provide. Thanks for the help.
